Avatar oh Avatar... What will you do with you?
Well for starters we could state the facts...
James Cameron was the first Director in human history to ever break the Billion dollar box office barrier with his world wide runaway hit Titanic. A film that grossed a cool $600,788,188 at the U.S. box office and a record $1,843,201,268 world wide according to the numbers at boxofficemojo.com.
A record that has held the title of being the highest grossing film world wide of all time for more than a decade. I actually had to use the restroom twice during that film but more to say that it had more legs than a daddy long leg with an unbelievable stretch of 41 weeks at the box office before being retired to DVD.
So that brings us back to today and what about his next run away hit Avatar.
I hate to say I told you so but I told you so and love saying it...
After seeing the film myself in early January I predicted here on WebTread that Avatar would not only beat Titanic's record but that it would have enough legs to be the first film in human history to surpass the 2 billion dollar mark. At the time the I felt a bit bold but I believed this film had legs. Now that it has both surpassed Titanic and the 2 Billion dollar mark I will go one further and predict it does over 2.5 Billion world wide at the box office and may actually surpass the 3 Billion dollar mark.
Prepare for a sequel... Any thing with this many legs and dollars attached to it, would almost be a crime not to. If I was James Cameron, I'd at least be tempted.

Feb 9th update... Avatar now sits at just over 2.2 Billion world wide coming in second place at the box office domestically for the first time in 7 weeks. It still is still running strong with over 22 million dollars in ticket sales. Will it break 2.5 Billion or even 3? only time will tell.
